We hire dedicated role models from Kentucky, Indiana, many of the other 48 states, and even other countries to supervise our campers during the summer.  Most of our seasonal staff are college-aged and were campers at Camp Piomingo.   Our staff is committed to instilling the character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in your camper, while providing them with a safe and fun experience.  All staff members are CPR/First Aid/AED certified and attend a week long training with sessions on child development, homesickness, and bullying prevention.  If you are interested in applying for the upcoming summer, please check out the job descriptions below and click the “apply” link when you are ready to apply.

Junior Cabin Counselor

Supervisor: Unit Leader

The Junior Cabin Counselor will assume responsibility for living in a cabin with 8 to 10 campers, serving as their counselor and leader. Will provide leadership in one or more program activities and participate in the planning and implementation of unit and all camp activities.
The Junior Cabin Counselor must have/be:
  • At least 17 years of age
  • Have completed YMCA Camp Piomingo’s CIT program
  • Certified in First Aid, CPR and Lifeguarding*
  • The knowledge and experience of camp skills and activities
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to put the needs of campers, staff and camp ahead of their own
  • Meet all insurance eligibility requirements, including a good driving record (if applicable) and a successful drug test
  • Able to attend staff training and work 8 weeks
  • Enhance the physical and emotional well being of each camper
  • Teach or assist in scheduled activities and develop or maintain a quality activity
  • Assist Senior Counselor during scheduled activities
  • Take attendance at activities
  • Lead a taps talk every night
  • Complete camper paperwork in a timely manner
  • Perform and document routine first aid tasks
  • Supervise campers at all times, in their cabins during rest hour and on cabin nights
  • Make sure that campers take their medications at required times
  • Review Parent Confidential Forms and return to Unit Leader the first day of each session
  • Lead campers in daily cabin clean-up
  • Make sure campers attend all camp functions on time
  • Supervise and evaluate C.I.T.s in your cabin and activity
  • Inform Unit Leader of any major incident with staff or campers
  • Assist with beginning and end of season cleaning and inventory as directed
  • Provide guidance and structure based on Camp Piomingo policy
  • Perform other duties for the betterment of camp as directed by supervisors
The Junior Cabin Counselor must be capable of:
  • Moving smoothly and swiftly over rough and rugged terrain daily in all weather conditions
  • Maintain the physical, visual, verbal, and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents
  • Lifting and carrying approximately 60 lbs
  • Positive upbeat attitude in all weather and conditions
  • Dress professionally for check in / out
